Enchanted Task
Sometimes tasks seem to have a life of their own. You work for months, everything is ready, and at the final moment, the entire server crashes. Coincidence or mysticism?
Sometimes at work, you encounter tasks that seem to have a life of their own. You can call them endless, cursed, or, at worst, enchanted. You can work on them for weeks and months, but there's still no end in sight. And the most interesting part is that it's often not your fault.
I have just such a story. I started it in May. It's the end of August on the calendar. Over three months. A period in which you could grow potatoes or learn basic Chinese, and all this time I've been struggling with one task.
And then, the day of the finale arrived. August 28th. Everything is ready, all tests passed. I checked, the testers checked—the result is exactly as it should be. The atmosphere is joyful: "Well, that's it, we're done, we can relax."
But...
At the moment when the result needs to be uploaded to the client's test server, the entire server crashes. Not my part, not my logic, not related to my task at all. Just on that day, almost at the same minute—the test server goes down.
You can't help but start believing in mysticism. It's like finally finishing your thesis, sending it to print, and at that moment, the power goes out in the entire neighborhood. Or you're about to propose to your girlfriend, and the ring suddenly falls into a storm drain. Coincidence? Of course. But the timing is so precise that it seems like someone up there is deliberately directing the whole process.
And now I wonder: do 'enchanted' tasks really exist? Those that seem to resist until you either give up or sacrifice another sleepless night.
